Fire Door Inspections

Fire doors are not the only thing that should be inspected

Fire Door Inspections (Article 17)

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 it is required that fire doors are regularly inspected and maintained. At present, fire door inspections are required to be conducted once a year.

More than ever compartmentation (Article 8 – fire resisting separation between rooms, floors, and between rooms and protected escape routes) within buildings is under scrutiny and fire doors play a crucial role in ensuring that a fire is contained within an area and that escape routes are protected from the effects of a fire.

It is not just the door that needs to be inspected. The frame, the immediate area around the frame, glazing present either in the door or surrounding the door frame, hinges, letterbox, locks, self-closing device and signage should also be checked to make sure that they can support the fire resistance of the door.
